Frequently Asked Questions

when would you use a ground screw?

The applications for ground screws are endless. Typically, you can plan for a 1-1 replacement wherever you were planning to pour a concrete footing. At Montana Ground Screw, we mainly install ground screws for decks, pergolas, cabins, and ground-mount solar arrays.

why would I use a ground screw instead of concrete?

Ground screws allow you to build efficiently without sacrificing quality. Ground screws are the solution for many common building issues such as tight access, building over existing concrete pads, and access in remote locations. There’s no digging, no mess, and no time lost waiting for wet concrete to set. In short, time is your most valuable commodity, and ground screws are a reliable, innovative product that helps you deliver to your customers in less time. how does frost affect the use of ground screws?

We will install the ground screw so that two thirds (2/3) of the threads are below the code recognized frost level in your area.

how long do screws last?

Our ground screws are made of galvanized steel. They should last up to 125 years. Our screws are guaranteed for 25 years.

can ground screws be removed/re-used?

You bet! Let’s say you no longer need a basketball hoop in your driveway. The ground screw can be turned counter clockwise for removal. Bonus: very little site damage is left behind. Or, maybe you had screws installed for a pergola, only to decide you wanted to adjust the layout; the screw can easily be taken out and reinstalled.

Do ground screws meet code compliance for my area?

We use screws manufactured by American Ground Screws. The screws are ICC-ES certified. Code Officials look for the ICC-ES Mark on building products for peace of mind when approving products. ICC-ES is widely recognized for its thorough technical evaluations, speed, and gold standard in customer service. Many municipalities adopt current ICC-ES codes.

can i install ground screws myself?

Not unless you become a certified installer. If you’re interested in using ground screws for your project, contact us - we would love to serve you!

Are ground screws cheaper than concrete?

Concrete is the most widely available building material in the world, so if you’re only comparing the cost of materials, concrete will always be cheaper. But we all know that labor is the real driver of cost in construction, and ground screws will save you exponential amounts of time - every time. So if you’re looking for an innovative and reliable way to build more efficiently, ground screws are for you.
